Fall Driving Safety Tips 2022!

By October 14, 2022Personal Insurance

The weather is getting cooler, which means a new season is upon us! Believe it or not, there are many potential hazards that come with driving in fall due to the change in daylight and wildlife activity. Learn some fall trucking tips to stay safe on the road.

BE AWARE OF SUN GLARE!!

Fall brings shorter days and daylight saving time, which means you will be driving more when the sun is lower in the sky. This can create an increase in glare from the sun, which makes it more difficult to see pedestrians, car brake lights and road hazards. Make sure your vision is as clear as possible by keeping your windshield clean and having a pair of sunglasses handy.

WATCH OUT FOR LEAVES!!

Stray leaves can also cause a problem when driving, especially if they are wet. Piles of wet leaves can make your tires slide and potentially cause an accident. If you see leaves in the road, err on the the side of caution and slow down.

STAY ALERT FOR DEER!!

Deer are also more active this time of year, especially during dawn and dusk. Follow these tips to stay alert for deer while driving:

– Don’t outdrive the reach of your headlights.

– Look for deer eye shine.

– Deer are herd animals, so if you see one, be aware that there are probably more.

– Pay attention to deer crossing signs.

– Don’t swerve when you see an animal in the road, instead keep your truck straight and brake while staying in control. As sad as it might be, hitting a deer will cause the least damage. If you swerve, you can risk overturning your truck.
